The Steam Wishlist

I've been collating a list of games I like the look of recently. This list is by no means in order of rating or desirability. But, just a collection of games that I think look as fun as ~@£# to play. One day, I'll get around to playing them all! Just as soon as I can remove myself from Elden Ring...
I've created a wishlist on steam to keep track of these games; Despite not owning a capable PC! wow-ed by the announcement of the Steam Deck, I thought I'd purchase one to run these games instead. I love to play these indie titles on the Nintendo Switch. But, I'll be honest, I'm finding it harder and harder these days with the lack of trophies/achievements and the performance issues that are all too common. I like to be rewarded for completing the most obscure tasks and collecting every item I can find! Who doesn't? Those pixels of trophies give me validation in life. With a Steam deck, I'd get both! Win. Win.
Anyway, here are some hidden gems that have caught my eye in 2022:
Wildermyth:
DEVELOPER: Worldwalker Games LLC
Wildermyth is a character-driven, procedurally-generated tactical RPG. Like the best tabletop roleplaying experiences, Wildermyth gives you choices and answers your every decision with consequences that drive your characters forward.
Lead a band of heroes as they grow from reluctant farmers into unique, legendary fighters. Combat unexpected threats and strange monsters across interactive battlefields. Unravel mysteries and share pensive moments in an ever-new fantasy setting that blends hard truths and sacrifice with humor and personal storytelling.
"Where does your myth lead? Come help us uncover it!"
I've picked this as I have seen it advertised as a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with a unique flair. I've played it a bit with some buddies and thought it could be great for us to carry on our sessions online. I've seen nothing but good things about this, and I'm itching to create a legacy for my character as soon as I can convince my friends to purchase it with me! I love the art style and the 2-D design. I can't wait to get started.
Darkest Dungeon:
DEVELOPER: Red Hook Studios
Darkest Dungeon is a challenging gothic roguelike turn-based RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring.
"Reclaim Your Ancestor's Estate"
Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes through twisted forests, forgotten warrens, ruined crypts, and beyond. You'll battle not only unimaginable foes, but stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark. Uncover strange mysteries, and pit the heroes against an array of fearsome monsters with an innovative strategic turn-based combat system.
I saw this game whilst browsing Twitter. In a way, it's similar to Wildermyth. But Darkest Dungeon is far darker. Your heroes are dysfunctional. They suffer from breakdowns and things you might expect heroes have to deal with crawling through Dark, dreary dungeons riddled with Fearsome beasts. Their sanity deteriorates, and that can be a good or bad thing. I loved the concept of this game, whilst it's only one player. It looks like something you can play again and again.
Eastward:
DEVELOPER: Pixpil
Eastward is a beautifully detailed and charming adventure game, from Shanghai-based indie developers, Pixpil.
In the near-future, society is starting to collapse, and the human population is at an all-time low. A deadly toxic presence has spread across the land, destroying and devouring everything in its path.
Those who could escape the miasma flocked to underground villages to start a new life. But for a hardworking miner and a mysterious young girl, the hope of a thriving outside world beckons…
Escape the tyrannical clutches of Potcrock Isle's subterranean society and join Eastward’s unlikely duo on an exciting adventure to the land above! Discover beautiful yet bizarre settlements and make new friends as you travel across the world by rail.
Eastward. It looks great. Whilst I know little of the game, the art style and charm completely sold me. I'm a massive fan of a good story. This looks just that. It was the game that started my Steam Wishlist and made me decide that I have to have something more powerful than a switch to enjoy it fully.
Inscryption:
DEVELOPER: Daniel Mullins Games
PUBLISHER: Devolver Digital
Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards...
In Inscryption you will...
Acquire a deck of woodland creature cards by draft, surgery, and self mutilation
Unlock the secrets lurking behind the walls of Leshy's cabin
Embark on an unexpected and deeply disturbing odyssey
Inscryption. I've never played a game like this. I've always loved board games and have dabbled with games like Gwent in the Witcher. That is what drew me to this. Inscryption gives the impression that you're not just playing a card game. Something else seems to be happening; I'm dying to find out. If this was available on platforms other than Steam. I'd have bought it already. I'm holding out for as long as I can, but this is the game I'm dying to play the most.
Weird West:
GENRE:Action, Adventure, Indie, RPG, Simulation
DEVELOPER: WolfEye Studios
Discover a dark fantasy reimagining of the Wild West where lawmen and gunslingers share the frontier with fantastical creatures. Journey through the story of a group of atypical heroes, written into legend by the decisions you make in an unforgiving land. Each journey is unique and tailored to the actions taken - a series of high stakes adventures where everything counts and the world reacts to the choices you make. Form a posse or venture forth alone into an otherworldly confines of the Weird West and make each legend your own.
Weird West. Again, a game I don't know too much about. I enjoyed the initial trailer, and that was enough for me to place it on my Wishlist; I love a game where your actions have consequences. I feel like this game has a lot of promise and the art style sealed the deal. It looks chaotic, and I'm here for it.
Dungeon Munchies:
GENRE:Action, Adventure, Indie, RPG, Early Access
DEVELOPER: maJAJa
Hunt down monsters to cook and eat them! You’ve been revived in a massive underground complex and you must leave this bizarre facility. Aided by the undead Necro-Chef Simmer, you must stay safe, get fed and find a way to get out.
Dungeon Munchies is a side-scrolling action RPG with a focus on hunting down creatures, cooking them, and eating dishes to gain certain abilities. The combination of dishes you choose to eat will impact your entire play style.
Dungeon Munchies. What is it? I couldn't tell you. I first saw this game on a Nintendo Switch showcase. It has elements of an JRPG and lots of murderous vegetables!? I believe you gain new abilities by giving a Demonic chef ingredients to enhance your skills. It just looks fun. The initial trailer that Nintendo showed didn't do the game justice at all. When researching, I found other videos where the gameplay looked like carnage. I feel the switch wouldn't handle it so well, so I've made the difficult decision to put it on the back-burner for now.
Unsighted:
DEVELOPER: Studio Pixel Punk
Traverse Arcadia your way. Save your friends. Time is ticking.
Alma is an Automaton that awakens to a world in ruin after the war with the humans. Anima, the resource that gives Automatons sentience, is running out and turning Alma’s friends into mindless killing machines, the UNSIGHTED.
UNSIGHTED invites you to master it over multiple playthroughs to find the real catharsis the game has to offer. Can you save everyone?
Unsighted. The gameplay looks incredible. This is another highly anticipated title. I was sold after seeing the trailer. I feel this game is a lot more complex than the trailers reveal and a real challenge. I'm in love with the art style. It's not a game I'd typically play, but I can tell this is a 10/10. It looks fluid, unique and sharp.
Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon:
DEVELOPER: Konami Digital Entertainment, GuruGuru
GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon combines intense roguelike hack-and-slash action with a stunning dark fantasy world, brought to life through the stroke of traditional Japanese art.
As the chosen leader and guardian of the land of the living, wield the otherworldy arsenal and powers of the Getsu clan as you overcome multiple "Death" and descend deeper into the depths of Hell to eradicate the source of the cataclysm.
Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon.
Art style. Art style and one more time art style. The game looks gorgeous. This was another title revealed by a Nintendo indy showcase. Another one I feel it might unfortunately not run well on the Nintendo Switch.
It would be an injustice to play it on a system that couldn't handle it. I love Japanese mythology, and I'm dying to die a lot playing this as it looks brutal. I can't wait.
ANNO: Mutationem
DEVELOPER: ThinkingStars
Welcome to the neon-covered, 2D-meets-3D Cyberpunk world of ANNO: Mutationem. In this Action-Adventure game with RPG elements you become Ann: a highly-skilled combat-trained lone wolf on a personal mission in the giant Metropolis, full of sinister mega-corporations, mysterious fringe groups and creatures more bizarre than words can express.
This was a late addition. It caught my eye on Twitter. I've only actually seen the one trailer, but that was enough. The Cyber Punk world looks GREAT in a pixelated art style. The colours look GREAT. The combat reminds me a little of Hollow Knight. Which, FYI, is one of the best games I've ever played. It's not my usual game of choice, but after taking the gamble with Hollow Knight and discovering an incredible experience. I think it's worth the risk.
Think there's something else I might like? Feel free to suggest some titles in the comments section below.
